Farm Notes 4.23.14 On Saturday, the Boyle County - TopicsExpress

Farm Notes 4.23.14 On Saturday, the Boyle County Farmers’ Market was buzzing with people. Our tables were loaded with fresh asparagus, strawberries, sourdough breads, rolls, fresh eggs, Easter eggs and more. Our newest market member had tables full of beautiful garden plants like heirloom tomatoes and peppers as well as onion sets, seed potatoes and garden seeds. The weather was so nice compared to earlier in the week when we had snow and a late spring freeze. We all enjoyed being outside for the day. Once we closed the market Saturday, our members gathered at the pavilion for a cook-out. Everyone brought a dish to share. It was a great way to wind down and enjoy each other’s company. As the season progresses and the weather becomes warmer, more vegetables and fruits will be arriving at the market. For now we have locally grown cool weather veggies along with red-ripe Florida strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, and asparagus. Jams, jellies, relish, fresh eggs, sourdough breads, granola, cinnamon buns, friendship breads, gluten-free breads, goat’s milk soaps, skin creams and lip balm will be available every Saturday in April. Stop by and check us out. We will be accepting applications to join our market until May 31st. If you are interested in becoming part of our growing market, please contact John Wyatt, our market manager at 859-229-5504 or the Boyle County Extension Office. We accept WIC Vouchers, Senior Vouchers, Debit Cards and EBT Cards.
