Farmhand kills Kiambu granny over salary BY STANLEY NJENGA Residents of Matuguta Village in Githiga Githunguri subcounty in kiambu woke up to a rude shock after they found a granny murdered in cold blood with suspicion leading to her farm hand. 78 year old Leah Njoki Guchu was this morning found dead in her kitchen with hands tied and her mouth stuffed with clothings and had deep cuts on the head and it is alleged the acts could have been done by a farm hand whom has already fled. According to her son George Njau said that his parents whom the father is 86 years old were living alone with a farm hand who was employed 2 months ago and house girl and on Sundays the house girl is given an off and they are left with the farm hand. My parents live by themselves with a farm hand and a house girl and the house girl does not come to work on Sundays and only the farm hand is at home with my parents, said Njau. Njau said he received a phone call and was informed of the incident as he does not live near his parents and could not know what led to the acts as he never knew the farm hand. Lucy warui daughter in law and lives near the deceased home said that the farm hand only known as hezbon and hailed from Kisii was employed after requesting for work and had worked in the village in other homesteads as the area has many farm, hands who hailed from other communities and on Sunday hedemanded to be paid immediately his dues as he did not want work. We only know him as Hezbon and on Sunday he demanded his money by force saying he did not want work anymore, said warui. warui said her mother in law decided to pay him and called some other women who had come to visit her to be witnesses though the farm hand did not appreciate what he was paid but unwillingly accepted the money and left. Though Hezbon did not like what he was paid he accepted and left and it was by 7 pm and there were women who had visited her but left also to their homes and left my mother and father, said Warui. Warui said that her father in law since he is old goes to bed early and did not hear anything only to wake up in the morning to find his wife murdered and called for help from the neighbours. Joe Mwai a resident of the area said that the man was in his early 30s and was tall and strongly built and always kept to himself and was also rough and could have returned to the homestead after everyone left and committed the acts. Area member of county assembly James Wanyangi said that the acts were barbaric and and called upon the residents to make it a point of getting the history of their workers and also be knowing a contact person. We should be having details of our workers and be treating them as humans as it seems relationships between workers and employers is souring which is leading to deaths, said Wanyangi. The body was taken by Githunguri police. Barely a day a woman in Turitu Village within Kiambu town was found murdered allegedly by his housemaid who is being sought by police as she fled. the-star.co.ke/news/article-161175/farmhand-kills-kiambu-granny-over-salary
