Fascinating Facts ... The sea eagle, now successfully reintroduced to Scotland, used to occur widely throughout the UK as shown by the distribution of associated place names. George Sim’s book on The Fauna of Dee (1903) says: That the Sea Eagle was resident and bred within our confines is indisputable, for along our coast line many rocks still retain the name of ‘Erne Heugh’ or ‘Erne Craig’. Heugh and craig being a rock or cliff, both were naturally associated with eagles. Similarly Gaelic place names with na h Iolaire are of the eagle, and many coastal ones will refer to sea eagles.
