Fasting of Ashura (MUST READ) The Prophet (Peace and Blessings be - TopicsExpress

Fasting of Ashura (MUST READ) The Prophet (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said, “Fasting the day of `Ashura (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for the sins committed in the previous year.”[Sahih Muslim] After the Hijrah when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, he found that the Jews of Madinah used to observe this day by fasting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them the reason for their fast. They replied, “This is a blessed day. On this day Allah saved Musa and the Children of Israel from their enemy and so Prophet Musa fasted on this day (giving thanks to Allah).” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I am closer to Musa than you are.” He fasted on that day and commanded the Muslims to fast on that day. (Reported by Al-Bukhari) This year Ashura will take place on monday november 3rd. (10th Muharram). However RasulAllah (Peace and Blessings be upon him) also said “Observe fasting on the day of `Ashura’, but differ from the Jews and fast one day before it and one day after it.”(Reported by Ahmad). So Sunday or Tuesday. NOTE: Fasting on these days are Mustahabb, so if you arent able to fast, then you can leave it out. However you would be missing many rewards! Some intentions you can make for fasting: - I intend to fast to attain Allahs pleasure - I intend to fast, because its the Sunnah of RasulAllah (Peace and Blessings be upon him) - I intend to fast to attain its merits - I intend to fast also, because RasulAllah (Peace and Blessings be upon him) used to fast on Mondays. And so on. Remember the Ummah in your prayers and May Allah accept your and mine Fasting. Aameen.
