©Fate in disguise One thing about life we must all agree Nothing here comes for free You toil as hard as you possibly can It takes years to be a true human! I was walking past the meadows I heard some footsteps & a shadow I couldn’t decipher what they whispered The moment I turned they disappeared. I had failed that year in my class Everything had gone wrong that X mas As I came forward to cut the cake Pop said I was making a mistake. I being a girl would not inherit his estate My brother was the one with a golden fate The jubilant crowd cheered his name He was already riding on the powers of fame. I was always treated like an outsider Like a formidable foe kept asunder Tiniest of blunder was blown out of proportion Our whole house relied more on concoction The moment my dad had a cerebral attack He forgot all about money and Nasdaq His life was seriously at stake He realized his dilemmas and his mistake. He admitted he had blundered His emotions misguided He allowed himself to be plundered Sense of guilt filled his soul He knew he did not play his role. I sat beside him day and night Never bothering about my own plight No one was near except my mother The beneficiaries chose to be asunder. His blessings have made me a star today Fate in disguise has been kind to repay I have no regrets and no remorse I am proud to have performed my duties As a daughter par se! Padmini Dutta Sharma
