Fate of Sullivan County deadbeat parent cases up in the air MONTICELLO – Monticello Village Justice Josephine Finn has ruled that she does not have jurisdiction over the 100 Sullivan County deadbeat parent cases placed in her court, therefore, on Wednesday, she removed them from her desk. The cases stemmed from various locations in Sullivan and Orange counties, but her jurisdiction is just the Village of Monticello, Judge Finn told MidHudsonNews. It will be up to Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell as to if he will continue to pursue the cases, which originated in Family Court. He is going to appeal the judge’s decision to the appellate court in this case, Sullivan County Court. “We do believe there is a jurisdiction in the Village of Monticello Justice Court given that these orders emanated out of a family court that is situated in the Village of Monticello and we will take the next steps to perfect that appeal and to have that heard at the higher court,” he said. The deadbeat parent charges were filed against moms and dads who were charged with failing to pay court-ordered child support payments. midhudsonnews/News/2014/April/10/SC_deadbeats_Finn-10Apr14.htm
