Fear Allah with your limbs In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy Know that every limb was created to perform a specific action; so a sign of its sickness is when guilt is established for performing that action or when it occurs with some type of confusion. The sign of sickness of the hand is when it is guilty for striking unlawfully; the sign of sickness of the eye is when it is guilty for staring unlawfully; the sign of sickness of the heart is when it is guilty for not doing what it was created for–and that is to have knowledge, wisdom and recognition, and to love Allaah, worshiping Him alone and preferring that over every other desire. Therefore, if a person was to possess knowledge of everything but he did not know Allaah (Gloried Be He), then it is as if he knew nothing. The sign of knowing Allaah is to love Him, for whoever truly knows Allaah will love Him, and the sign of having love for Allaah is that one does not give precedence to anything of those beloved things over Him. So whoever prefers something of the beloved things over Him, then his heart is sick, just as the stomach that prefers to eat mud and not bread—due to losing the desire to eat bread—is sick.
