Federal government trying to con you out of vitamin D By Jack - TopicsExpress

Federal government trying to con you out of vitamin D By Jack Harrison, Research Director, Real Advantage Nutrients My mother always told me that if you dont have something good to say, dont say anything at all. And mom isnt going to be too proud of what Im going to do next. But our government has just launched a foolish... dangerous... completely incompetent... potentially life-threatening assault on natural vitamins and supplements. Theyve practically declared war on your ability to steer clear of bone loss, diabetes and even cancer. And you need to know about it now. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force -- a panel of so-called objective medical experts (more on that in a moment) -- has just recommended your doctor stop checking your vitamin D levels. Theyre trying to silence any conversation you and your doctor would have about vitamin D and health. Why would anyone in the medical profession... or anyone whos actually picked up a newspaper and read about the wonders of vitamin D over the past 10 years... do something so stupid? Well, they offer two pathetic reasons. The first is that they claim theres no consensus on what a healthy target is for your vitamin D levels. Thats right -- this crack team of scientists is arguing that since we have a healthy debate about what your target levels should be, we should stop testing completely. Have you ever heard anything quite so foolish? (Sorry mom.) Second, the task force said it pored over the data and wasnt convinced about the benefits of vitamin D. So which studies were they looking at? Obviously not the study proving vitamin D can slash your breast cancer risk in half... Or the study proving it can boost pancreas function and keep diabetes at bay... Or the research on more than 2,600 seniors that found vitamin D may help keep you out of a wheel chair. No, friend, the task force only looked at studies where participants were not pre-screened for vitamin D deficiency and were showing no symptoms of a deficiency. Yes, really. To determine whether there were any benefits of taking vitamin D, researchers looked only at people who didnt need more vitamin D. I havent seen a scientific con like this since the Catholic Church forced Galileo to deny that the Earth moves. But I dont believe for a second these scientists are stupid -- they just have an agenda. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force is supposed to be free from conflicts of interest -- but theyre affiliated with numerous organizations that are deep in bed with Big Pharma (you can check out the list here). And the drug companies have a serious interest in stopping the vitamin D juggernaut in its tracks. This is one recommendation -- like plenty of others that come from our government -- that you can toss in the trash. Keep getting your vitamin D levels monitored regularly by a doctor who knows what hes doing -- and, hopefully, isnt on the government payroll.
