Feeding Therapy Update: Feeding therapy is always our rough go. In all his other therapies, Christian just flies through. He always progresses and just does so well. Feeding therapy is so different than all the others. Today was especially difficult. Its days like today that make me even more thankful for our patient, loving, and nurturing feeding therapist. Christian fought it hard today. Usually he will (begrudgingly) participate and do his exercises. I didnt say he enjoyed it, I just said he did it. :) Today we got little to no where. Right now, Christian is taking nothing by mouth, not because he cant, but just because he wont. He refuses even licks of ice cream or candy. Before his last surgery we had worked up to a cup of yogurt a day, which is huge for him. We expected a set back once he had surgery. (His mouth just suffered injury so its only natural that he wont come out of surgery eating like he did before.) For some reason, I always stress when Christian isnt doing well in therapy. I want so badly for him to be able to eat with his mouth. Now that hes had his palate closed, physically he should be able to eat at least more than what hes doing now. I want him to be able to enjoy foods like his mama does. Earlier this week, when Christian graduated from physical therapy, I baked him a cake to celebrate, and he is the only one who didnt eat any. I know in the grand scheme thats such a small thing, and I KNOW one day Ill look back and that feeding tube will be just a memory, but until that time would you all pray with me for Christians feeding therapy and his eating by mouth? With all hes accomplished already, I know he can overcome this too!!!
