#FeelGoodStory Teachers Donated Over 150 Sick Days to a Fellow Teacher with Cancer. Last year, a sixth-grade teacher in Los Angeles named Carol Clark was diagnosed with breast cancer, and had to have chemotherapy. Luckily, Carol had saved up 120 sick days during her 17 years as a teacher. But with surgeries, chemo, and doctors appointments, even that wasnt enough. And she was going to lose pay AND her medical benefits. But Los Angeles schools have something called the Catastrophic Illness Donation Program, which allows other teachers to donate THEIR sick days. So Carols husband Dave . . . whos a teacher at the same school . . . left a sign-up sheet in the teachers lounge. Then teachers there told teachers at OTHER schools. And over the course of several weeks, they donated 154 sick days to her . . . almost an entire YEARS worth of school days. Now Carol is happy to be BACK at school this year. And as far as her health goes, things are looking up, but shes still not out of the woods and gets tired pretty easily. Luckily, she still has some of those sick days in the bank. By the way, Carol isnt the only teacher whos benefited from the donation program. Last year, 23 of L.A.s 30,000 teachers were able to use donated sick days. abc7/292311/
