Feeling a little overwhelmed by some of the responses to the Michael Brown shooting such as, STOP talking about race, You make everything about race. This is exactly why racism exists, or, I dont see race. I treat and love everyone equally. So I am turning to good ole Francesca Leigh. The point of talking about race is NOT to make ANYONE feel bad. It is not to guilt anyone. The point is to say... HEY, not everyone in this country is treated equally. Our country is built from systematic oppression. Citizens are treated unequally just because they were born with a different color of skin. I understand your one *insert race here* may not share the same experiences, but discrimination and oppression is the experience of millions of people. When you say you do not see race, that does not make a damn difference to every single person whose daily experiences involve being constantly reminded of his/her skin color, and those whose livelihoods are based on their skin color. NO, I do not want to make you feel bad. What I want is for you to see a different perspective and understand that it exists. I want you to SEE that it exists. This is the first step towards equality: awareness. #endrant
