Feeling amused skimming through the FB post and comments from a news source this morning about measles. Heres where I ended up while processing their completely opinionated article: who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs286/en/ Lets see what the WHO says about measles. Again, even more amused here. Is there a face-palm emoji???-- Insert here-- Measles is still common in many developing countries – particularly in parts of Africa and Asia. More than 20 million people are affected by measles each year. The overwhelming majority (more than 95%) of measles deaths occur in countries with low per capita incomes and weak health infrastructures. ---Oh, you mean 95% of those deaths are from places that are lacking good hygiene and access to good food, clean water and medical care? My trusty little tv said we were ALL going to die from not getting vaccinated! Whew, I was about to cuss out some poor mom here in America for sending her (healthy) un-vaccinated kid to play at the park with my kids because shes putting us all at risk to die in our filthy slum of the American suburbs. 🏥🏡🗽 Any non-immune person (who has not been vaccinated or was vaccinated but did not develop immunity) can become infected. ---Wait, how many vaccines do I need I get to become immune? How am I even going to know when Im immune yet? Are YOU immune yet? Back away from me! 🙀💉 Severe measles is more likely among poorly nourished young children, especially those with insufficient vitamin A, or whose immune systems have been weakened by HIV/AIDS or other diseases. ---Hey you! Yeah you, stuck up, anti science , organic, hippy mom who avoids vaccines, over use of antibiotics, juice boxes, has them believing their vitamins are their candy, makes your kids eat right and doesnt allow them to eat junk, youre so stupid! Bring on the McDonalds and Vaccinate those kids, its the only way to save their life! Selfish B👿 💊💉🍔🍟🍕🍼 No specific antiviral treatment exists for measles virus. Then followed with: Vitamin A supplements have been shown to reduce the number of deaths from measles by 50%. ---Hhhmmm We wouldnt want people to believe theres a natural solution to this now would we... 🙈🙉🙊 Severe complications from measles can be avoided though supportive care that ensures good nutrition, adequate fluid intake and treatment of dehydration with WHO-recommended oral rehydration solution. ---Oh wow, you mean we can avoid this by eating right? Gasp! Excuse me hippy mom, can you help direct me to the nearest real foods source? Thanks! 🍏🍒🍆 In 2012, about 84% of the worlds children received one dose of measles vaccine by their first birthday through routine health services – up from 72% in 2000. Two doses of the vaccine are recommended to ensure immunity and prevent outbreaks, as about 15% of vaccinated children fail to develop immunity from the first dose. ---Yet we are in an apparent epidemic thanks to the unvaccinated? That 16% of the infested population is really getting around! Why havent I been informed of this massive hippy road trip!!!! Crying.🙍 ✈🍷🎉 Overwhelming evidence demonstrates the benefit of providing universal access to measles and rubella-containing vaccines. Globally, an estimated 562 400 children died of measles in 2000. By 2012, the global push to improve vaccine coverage resulted in a 78% reduction in deaths. Since 2000, with support from the Measles & Rubella Initiative (M&R Initiative) over 1 billion children have been reached through mass vaccination campaigns ― about 145 million of them in 2012. ---Oops, they failed to mention that measles (as with many other diseases) have epidemic cycles every 2-3 years. Good timing for your unbiased scientific report! 👍💡💰👏 Part of their plan of attack to eradicate disease: communicate and engage to build public confidence and demand for immunization ---Well thats one thing youre doing a great job at! Look at all the media coverage on the vaccines and the hate driven articles on the anti-vaccine community. Covering only those who are dying of something, avoiding and outright denying those who are living with vaccine induced (lifelong) problems, or fail to mention the prior poor health conditions of those who are dying. Im so glad our media sources are so honest! Makes me feel proud to be human! 🎥👺🇺🇸 Moral of this story: Turn off the media, turn on your brain.
