Fellow country men, my sincere regrets go to my peasants in my homeland for the continued stealing and robbing them by these unpredicted officials who are competing in making Uganda a difficult land for the low earners Read this APAC-Several residents in Apac District have demanded that government acts on personnel who charge patients at Apac Hospital. They allege that patients pay between Shs50,000 to 150,000 at the dental and maternity wards. However, officials at the hospital who declined to be named said patients need to understand that cost- sharing is required for the survival of the hospital. At least eight mothers who spoke to Daily Monitor claimed they had paid personnel, who they did not identify to access various services. “I came here on Thursday and they told me to pay Shs100,000 before I could see a doctor,” Ms Middy Ajok, who underwent surgery, said. Another patient, Ms Sarah Enon from Ibuje Sub-county, told Daily Monitor she had been asked to buy airtime of Shs5,000 before she could see the doctor. “I told them I had only Shs500 and they refused to attend to me,” she said. The hospital chairman, Mr Bob Aboce, said those charging patients are doing so illegally, adding: “If you want such to stop, those involved should be reported, arrested and prosecuted.” Dr F. A Sabiiti, a dental surgeon at the hospital, said there could be some irregularities but other staff that Daily Monitor spoke to dismissed the claims. “We don’t receive any money from any patient. Our work is to carry out operations,” said Mr James Ogwang, a nursing officer. The district speaker, Mr Felix Yine, told a meeting organised by the Apac Anti-Corruption Coalition in Apac Town last Thursday, he will table the issues raised by residents in the next council meeting scheduled between August 27 and 28.
