Female editors, journalists, and photojournalists are under-represented in the Iraqi press corps. Increasing the number of women journalists and photojournalists is critical to having a balanced media industry that truly represents the Iraqi people. Metrography, with the support of Norwegian People´s Aid, is organising a Women´s Fellowship Program. This fellowship program will train nine woman on the different aspects of journalism in order to be able to create a multimedia story that will focus on woman issues in Iraq. The objective of the program is to increase capacity for female journalists, editors, and photojournalists who are professional trained, well-versed in, and putting into practise international journalism standards and ethics that advance a free, democratic press with an increase specifically in ethical media coverage on gender rights issues in Iraq. Who can apply: If you are a female journalist with a passion for multimedia journalism, you can use this online form to apply for being a fellow in this program. It will be a highly competitive selection process based on numerous factors, including experience and enthousiasm. Where are you applying for: The program will be four months. The course consists of four workshops in Sulaymaniyah, with the aim of producing story ideas and work plans, followed by the production of a multimedia story while receiving online coaching from the trainers. The course will end with a session in which the produced multimedia stories are discussed and finalized. The program will take place between the middle of October 2013 and January 2014. The trainings will take place in a small group environment where you will get one-on-one coaching from experienced, international female journalists and by a Metrography trainer. You will also have the opportunity to network and exchange knowledge with the trainers as well as your fellow participants through online coaching sessions. Participation is free of cost.
