Ferguson: I drove through Ferguson this afternoon after some - TopicsExpress

Ferguson: I drove through Ferguson this afternoon after some work in the office. Stopped for lunch at a boarded up Taco Bell. Talked to the manager, asked her how her staff is holding up. She said it has been difficult helping her workers get hours in with a shortened schedule. She was very positive that things will get back to a new normal soon. The glass for the broken windows is scheduled to be replaced on Monday. I saw a resiliency in her, her husband, and the workers. As I sat there eating, people came in from W. Florissant Avenue to take a break from the action of the day. A mom with 7 kids who needed a rest room break, a young couple grabbing a snack, a mother and daughter sharing a meal together. Two men grabbing a Pepsi before they walked southward on the sidewalk to ground zero. People, just ordinary people. After lunch, I encouraged the young man who served me to take care, thanking him for the excellent service and the good food. Two minutes later, I turned left onto a street where my intention was to turn another quick left and head back north. The path for which I was now committed to take was not what I anticipated. The traffic was very heavy with cars moving very slowly. A quick left was not to be found. With my windows down I heard a single voice charging through the afternoon air. As I crept forward I see a group assembled on my left, much like a choir. I saw the man with the microphone in the middle of them referencing the prophet of Jeremiah’s words, chapter 23. To my right I see a group under tents selling refreshments as a fundraiser. Then I am stopped, waiting, listening, observing my surroundings. The car in front of me was stopped, windows down, doors ajar and speaking with those on the street, taking pictures. As the car moved ahead I remained stopped as people were still assembled directly in front of me…then I realized exactly where I was. Right there in the middle of the stained street lay flowers and other mementos to remember one whose life ended one week ago. People across the world please know that what you see in the media is not 100% true to the people who live and work in the area. Please pray for everyone in this very difficult time. May God pour out His mercy and bring about a change in the hearts of Americans. Including me.
