Ferguson ... My Take Do black people, on average, get - TopicsExpress

Ferguson ... My Take Do black people, on average, get harassed by the police more than I do ... absolutely. If I was black I would be the first guy to speak up or to protest the discrepancy in respect that black people receive from law enforcement. Do I get that Michael Browns death is a straw that broke the Camels back type of situation, absolutely. Again, if I were black, I would have already reached a point where I felt that something had to be done too. I just wouldnt choose THIS battle ... Lets be real. Regardless of skin color, if youre a parent who has a daughter, youre not letting her date Michael Brown. If you have a son, youre not letting him hang around with Michael Brown. That is unless youre bad parent. If your son or daughter was THIS cop, youre glad that he or she pulled the trigger first before he could hurt your child. This is because Michael Brown, by ALL measurements, was a bad guy. If President Obama had a son, he would NOT look or act like Michael Brown. The argument I hear most is the punishment doesnt match the crime argument. Fair enough. Everyone deserves the chance to change and reform themselves, goodness knows it took me a while. I am truly sorry and mournful that Michael did not ever get the chance to seek redemption from our Lord Jesus Christ. We are all children of God and loved by Him. I fear that he died in sin, which makes me sad. I do not believe anyone should die by the hands of another person if it can be avoided, its not our job to judge who lives and dies. (Yes this includes the death penalty) However, Michael Brown, like a man who smokes two packs of cigarettes a day and dies from lung cancer, lived a precarious lifestyle and died a predictable death. If the man who smokes two packs of cigarettes a day develops cancer and swears its from a reason other than smoking; how much weight are you going to give that argument? This doesnt mean his death is any less tragic. It simply means that his death is less shocking and that I am less likely to give him the benefit of the doubt. Basically, he gets my empathy, not my sympathy. Fixing the Problem. Our President appointed Al Sharpton to head up race relations on this issue. Thats analogous to putting out a fire with gasoline. If you were asked to come up with the 5 most divisive people, as it relates to race relations, regardless of your skin color, Sharpton is on everyones list. The only two things that can be assumed from this move is that: our President is ignorant and actually believes that Mr. Sharpton can make things better between blacks and whites, OR he has another agenda other than the one he has stated. Mark my words, the only thing Mr. Sharpton will accomplish is alienating white people and further enraging black people. It seems to me the only thing that will fix the issue is for more white people to understand and empathize with the issues that black people are feeling concerning this issue. Why? Because the change that needs to take place needs to begin in our legislative system, and like it or not, white people are the majority in America. The message needs to reach across the aisle to get a consensus among ALL people to legislate changes. If you take a look at History, thats exactly what Martin Luther King Jr. did. He got enough people on both sides of the issue to agree and won the civil rights battle. This change will never take place as long as black leaders and other people in power blame white people for everything that ails the black community. It will happen when these leaders start looking inside their communities first to fix the issues.
