#Ferguson The Grand Jury will not prosecute the death of Michael Brown. A Missouri Grand Jury has handed down the decision not to prosecute the White Policeman who killed unarmed Black youth Michael Brown in Ferguson last August. The unarmed Brown was shot 8 times by the policeman. President Obama was on the TV within 30 minutes of the decision appealing for calm, respecting the wishes of the Brown family for non violent protest. But within minutes clashes flared up and tear gas was used by the Police as some shops were attacked by an enraged population. Protests also took place in other parts of the USA. I used the the quote marks because this story has been widely framed by most commentators as a story about race and the death of young black men at the hands of the mostly white Police force without redress. Sir Thomas More said in 1535 at his execution for refusing to accept the primacy of King henry 8ths wishes over ecclesiatical law: I die the Kings good servant but Gods first. He was saying that polictical considerations, social expedience or personal advantage should never trump justice, truth or deep held faith and principles. America must take its stand on this matter too, for at the moment many would say the American position is I die Gods servant, but loyal first to that which is easy and advantageous to me. pics Mrs Brown after the verdict, Sir Thomas More, Protesters on 7th Ave. NYC.
