From my wise missionary son, Elder Kaden Smith:So this week I stayed in the area with Elder Lopez. We didnt have much time because we had two days of multi zone conferences with all the missionaries of the mission. We talked a lot a lot about the atonement. We also watched the video of Elder Bruce R. McConkies last testimony. It doesnt matter how often I watch that, it still hits me so hard everytime. The atonement of Christ is so simple and so complex at the same time. I love teaching it to investigators because it gives them hope for everything, if they have lived a life of sin, they have the hope that they can change. If they have sicknesses, they can take comfort in knowing that someday we wont have to suffer wordly afflictions, If they have lost a loved one, they can know that through the atonement, we will be able to enter the kindgom of God and live with them. But the thing that I love most about the atonement as a missionary is the word IF. Jesus has literally given us the OPPURTUNITY to change, to live with God forever, to be happy again, and to be free from sin, but we can only use this amazing gift IF we live the teachings of Jesus Christ. If we live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives. ONLY if we have Faith and use our faith, if we repent, if we are baptized the way Jesus taught us to be baptized, if we receive and use the holy ghost in our lives, and if we endure to the end. If not, we will have to pay for our own sins. I never understood the atonement until I got here to the mission. I hope to keep learning and using it in my life.
