Ferret Central is in a state of mourning. Daddy is taking it the - TopicsExpress

Ferret Central is in a state of mourning. Daddy is taking it the hardest. We lost our big, happy boy Bear at 0639am this morning. Daddy was holding him on his chest comforting him when Bear could no longer fight and ran for the Bridge. Daddy came to our room last night around 11pm to check on all of us and saw Bear pushed up against the door having a seizure. Daddy immediately began giving him sugar, then prednisone, then thin soup. Bear seemed to stop seizing as daddy held him but then started in again. Daddy took Bear upstairs to work with him. Daddy worked and worked but wasnt getting anywhere fast. He asked people on here for ideas and went through them all. Poor Bear would seize, stop, and rest in daddys arms, then seize again. Daddy called vet after vet and got no answer from them. He called the one emergency vet with all night service and was told that they did not take care of ferrets, they only took care of dogs and cats. Daddy yelled at the lady who in turn laughed and said she couldnt help, they only took care of dogs and cats. Daddy called as far as 70 miles away and at first was told to come on over but part way there they called daddy and said they had another emergency and couldnt see daddy. Daddy came back home and wrapped Bear in a warm, soft blanket the big boy loved. Daddy held Bear on his chest and stroked him and talked to him. Daddy told Bear that he didnt know what to do and that he was sorry he couldnt do more. He told Bear that if he needed or wanted to go to the Bridge daddy would understand. Bear began having horrible back arching, neck stretching seizures and the most horrible high pitched screams daddy said he has ever heard. Daddy held him and cried and stroked him and did all he knew to do. Bear seemed to settle down around 5am curled up on daddys chest on daddys bed. Daddy never once fell asleep with him in his arms. Finally, around 0635am Bear stirred a little, moving closer to daddys face until his nose and whiskers touched daddys nose. He laid there just being nose to nose. Daddy talked to him and told him he knew, he knew Bear was leaving. At 0639 Bear gave a little sigh, closed his eyes and his little, strong, happy spirit made the leap from physical to full spiritual and zoomed across the cosmos with an angel ferret to the Bridge where he was met by friends, family, others from our business like Gibbs, Hurk, Venus, and many others. He is now at peace, happy, meeting friends, running in the warm spring sun, resting under tall oak shade trees, dooking and dancing. Im sure he has looked down on us, missing us as much as we miss him, but happy that he is home and knowing in time we will join him along with daddy. Bear came to Ferret Central along with Serenity and Zues. Daddy found them in a small engine repair shop that also claimed to be a pet shop. All three were in homemade cages that barely allowed them to stand, make one turn in the cage, back into a potty pan and then lay in a small cardboard box to sleep. Daddy bought them on the spot. When daddy got the three of them to his apartment he let Bear out of the carrier. Bear ran back and forth the length of daddys apartment 3 times before stopping. Daddy looked at the paperwork on Bear and found he was a Marshall ferret who was now 6 months old. Daddy thinks being on the floor was the first time Bear had been out of his cage in the entire 6 months of his life. Bear was always so happy and fun to be around. He loved to play with a ball, always carrying one around in his mouth or chasing it on the floor. He loved Zeus and Serenity. The three of them formed a bond as tight as any ferret ever had. When daddy finished being a travel nurse and brought the three of them home, they all fit right in with everyone. Big Bear was instantly loved because of how much fun he was to be around. He loved to run in the tunnels, and dook and dance. He always shared treats and was kind to everyone. He loved to climb up into daddys lap and be held. We were always welcome to pile on him in daddys lap and in his cage. He loved being the base of a big pile of ferrets. As the years passed, Bear slowed down a little. He loved to eat soup and became fast friends with Phineas. They would sit at the soup bowl and eat. Then they would clean each others chin and walk around the room, two giant boys full of life. If you saw one, the other wasnt far off. Just recently Bear developed insulinoma which daddy treated. It seemed that he was doing very well until about two days ago. Suddenly daddy was fighting hard to maintain a proper blood sugar level with him. Then last night the seizures started. We miss our Bear and we have all said our goodbyes to him. We know he is safe and healthy now for all eternity. Daddy cant look at his bed or his favorite ball without crying. Daddy has told us he feels horrible, he doesnt know what else he could have done but wanted to do more. We understand and we curl up with daddy. Bear, dook in peace, fly high, soar among the clouds, run in the meadow, play with the woof woofs, meow meows, other ferrets and all of the other animals. Look down on us and come and visit from time to time. Below is a picture of our Bear. DIP 1-8-2015
