Few Spaces Left! The Parent and Child Center at Bristol Hospital Hosting “School Age Development and Discipline Series” for Parents of School-Age Children The Parent and Child Center at Bristol Hospital is hosting a series entitled “School Age Development and Discipline Series.” Disciplining Your School-Age Child will be held on Tuesday, October 22 from 6 PM to 8 PM. This class will include information concerning setting limits and disciplining school-age children. Raising a Responsible Child – Rules, Chores, and Consequences will be held on Tuesday, October 29 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. The class will discuss teaching children to think before they act (responsibility), to accept accountability for their mistakes, and to work together with other people (cooperation.) A discussion of routines and structure to encourage desirable behavior will also be reviewed. Children and Self-Esteem will be held on Tuesday, November 5 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. This workshop discusses the importance of self esteem and how parents can foster positive self-worth in their children. Nutrition and Your School-Age Child will be held on Tuesday, November 12 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. This class will discuss what to feed your young child, what nutrients your child needs to develop appropriately and what portion sizes should be served. Get new ideas for healthy snacks and meals, and share ideas for serving a picky eater. You will receive pamphlets and get to sample healthy snacks. Handling Children’s Anger will be held on Tuesday, November 19 from 6 PM to 8 PM. This workshop will focus on common causes of childhood frustration and anger, and the impact of a child’s emotional, social and intellectual development on his ability to manage his anger. Participants will brainstorm strategies to help their child learn to express anger in more socially appropriate ways. All classes will be held at the Parent and Child Center, 9 Prospect Street, Bristol, CT 06010. The classes in this series are partially funded by grants from the Petit Family Foundation and the Fuller & Myrtle Barnes Fund for Education at the Main Street Community Foundation. Individual classes can be taken and are $4/parent or $5/childcare provider for 1.5 hour classes and $5/parent or $6/provider for 2 hour classes. Scholarships and a sliding scale fee are available for low-income families. Pre-registration is required.
