Fewer than 500 North Atlantic right whales remain and 72% of their known mortalities result from human causes. WDC launched the Act Right Now campaign in an effort to save this species. Historically, right whale populations were hunted to near extinction by man. Today, the cumulative effects of vessel strikes, entanglement in fishing gear and habitat destruction are not allowing this species to recover. Unless the US Government Acts Right Now to extend vessel speed regulations, modify fishing practices, and expand designated critical habitat, North Atlantic right whales may disappear completely. Please join us in raising awareness about the threats they face and bringing people together in support of this critically endangered species.
