Fields Of Fairy, Redland, Oregon This is going to be my 2nd and final submission to Julias #envisionographycontest. In most of my recent work, the goal has been to create some sort of idealistic world thats suitable for my own temporary mental escape. As was the case with my prior submission (the Siletz Bay image), Im usually concerned with how best to portray a quiet, serene, and meditative environment. This one is no different, except it resonates on a more personal level. During a recent trip out west, we experienced thick fog for about a week in a rural part of NW Oregon where we were staying. Fog fascinates me because I dont get much of it back home and I knew there was a great image to be made, so we spent the week driving around taking many shots. We finally came across this farm of apple trees (?) that gave me the perfect canvas. I saw the makings of a world that was quieted down from distractions, giving me relief from my racing thoughts, and allowing me to take a focused journey of self-analysis and reflection. I felt like the centered composition and light between the trees was important to convey a sense of traveling down a mysterious, solitary path in a slow and methodical way with an intuitive knowing that there exists a bright, albeit unknown future ahead. I feel like this parallels my own journey in photography in some ways, and without getting too personal, I would say that I still dont know what my final purpose is, but I instinctively feel that Im on the right path. My only option is to continue taking this journey and maybe someday, Ill figure out whats behind that bright light at the end of the tunnel.
