Fiji’s suspension from the Pacific Island Forum has been lifted effective Wednesday 22nd October. The President of Palau and Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Tommy Remengesau Jr says he requested the Forum Secretariat to deliver his letter addressed to the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama conveying the decision of the Forum Leaders to fully lift the suspension of Fiji forthwith. A statement from the Forum says the Leaders were unanimous in their decision to lift Fiji’s suspension on a recommendation by the Forum Ministerial Contact Group on Fiji. Remengesau adds they fully welcomed and accepted the recommendation of the Forum Ministerial Contact Group and look forward to Fiji’s participation and contribution in all Forum activities, including the meetings of the Forum Leaders. Speaking on behalf of the Forum Secretariat, the Acting Secretary General Andie Fong Toy says they too welcome the decision of the Forum Leaders to lift Fiji’s suspension and look forward to Fiji resuming its participation in Forum activities. - See more at: fbc.fj/fiji/23953/fiji-welcomed-back-into-pacific-island-forum#sthash.4TedHmuI.dpuf
