Theory of Everything In the 1960s, Cambridge University student and future physicist Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) falls in love with fellow collegian Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones). At 21, Hawking learns that he has motor neuron disease. Despite this -- and with Jane at his side -- he begins an ambitious study of time, of which he has very little left, according to his doctor. He and Jane defy terrible odds and break new ground in the fields of medicine and science, achieving more than either could hope to imagine. https://youtube/watch?v=LUayjO_KgsQ The Babadook A troubled young widow discovers that her son is telling the truth about a monster that entered their home through the pages of a childrens book. https://youtube/watch?v=szaLnKNWC-U This week we have nine films to choose from, including two that new to us; the much requested Stephen Hawking story, the Theory of Everything AND our first psychological horror, the highly acclaimed Australian film, Babadook. Last week I saw Unbroken, which is harrowing and uplifting, not least of which when you see the last few minutes with details of the actual WWII survivor and what he achieved in his life after the war. I hear good reports about Big Eyes, Im intrigued by The Babadook because it gets such brilliant reviews (97% on Rotten Tomatoes website) but Im a real woos with psychological horrors (be prepared for me screaming and throwing popcorn all over those around me - it has happened before). Looking forward to Theory of Everything which is up for Oscars. Still Mine had good reports from those that saw it last week - It probably strikes a few chords with campo dwellers around here as it focuses on one mans fight with the authorities over an illegal planning situation, as he tries to build a suitable home for his last years with his ailing wife..... Two sets of friends told me last week that at times they felt like they were in the Sherman tank with Brad pit during Fury - they thoroughly recommend it. So many good films to choose from. The cinema team are also investigating getting hold of a direct screening version of The Imitation game (Alan Turing/Enigma machine story) as the film, is not on general release in Spain. If it happens it will probably be a special showing on a Thursday.... more new soon.
