Final production this afternoon: The VU Music Departments Opera Workshop Ensemble is pleased to present Gian Carlo Menotti’s (1911-2007) The Old Maid and the Thief, a grotesque opera in one act. Wednesday, April 30th 5:00 p.m. Red Skelton Performing Arts Center - Lab Theatre Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. The Old Maid and the Thief is an American opera originally commissioned by NBC for radio performance (premier in 1939). This staged production will tell the twisted tale of Miss Todd, her coquettish and young maid, Laetitia, an eavesdropping neighbor, Miss Pinkerton, and Bob, a self-proclaimed wanderer. Who is the villain or hero in this opera? Menotti writes in his libretto The devil couldnt do what a woman can- Make a thief out of an honest man. No matter what you decide, this double-cast production features tremendous student talent, beautifully performed music, and a witty libretto. April 30th Cast: Miss Todd: Madison Petty, mezzo soprano Laetitia: Lydia Hancock, soprano Miss Pinkerton: Danielle Ferguson, soprano Bob: Ernest Pittman, baritone Dr. Matthew Latta, Music and Stage Director Dr. Joni Chan, Collaborative Pianist Sam Warren, Technical Director
