Finally ADMITTING CRIME On the RISE !!! Task force for a safer state M. SIVANANTHA SHARMA [email protected] PENANG police have formed a task force following the increase in crime index in the state for the first six months of the year. State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi hoped the task force would be able to bring down the index which had shot up 8.7% up to June 26 this year compared to the corresponding period last year. “On a daily basis, the task force will study all the reports lodged all over Penang. “This will certainly assist the officers in solving the cases,” he said during the ‘Program PDRM Bersama Pelangan’ held at the Sunway Carnival Mall in Bandar Seberang Jaya near Butterworth on Thursday. DCP Abdul Rahim urged the public to give their feedback on the services provided by his men. “Please see me and tell me your problems. We will work together as this is a joint responsibility between two parties,’’ he said. Also present were Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Azman Abd Lah and several senior police officers. Meanwhile, he said 70 policemen would be placed at the northeast district while 100 would be stationed at the central Seberang Prai district starting on Monday. “More policemen will be placed at central Seberang Prai due to the increasing number of crime incidents there. However, he said the overall crime rate had gone down by 60% in all the places in 2010, 2011 and 2012. thestar.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2013/6/29/north/13304060&sec=North
