Finally caught up on the game on DVR. A few thoughts: 1) First of all, no need to panic. Disappointing loss, sure, but it was a good baseball game, and a pitchers duel. Ill take our four guys over their four guys if it comes down to that. They play best of five for a reason. 2) It was not the dominant Strasburg we were hoping to see, but it was a mature start from the ace. They just nibbled him to death with these little dribblers through the infield, and well placed singles that never threated extra bases. They manufactured some runs, but he did a great job of minimizing the damage, wiggling out of further trouble, and doing what good pitchers do: keep your team in the game with a chance to win. 3) The lineup disappointed against Peavy, but they were patient and ran up his pitch count, which was crucial as we got into the game once he was out of there. Id like to see a little of what the Giants did in nickel and diming them, though. They came to life later, thankfully. But weve got to get Desmond going. Wish it had been Harper up with the bases loaded, but weve got a lineup thats worked so Im not suggesting changing it now. Ramos also scuffled, but hes our man. 4) That blast from Bryce. Holy wow. I hope he steps up as the guy to lead the charge. He thrives in the spotlight, and he might just burn bright in this one. Watch out. Great blast from Droob too. 5) The use of Bevins... nice. Stammen? Not so much. Keep that run off the board and we at least go to extras. Although Thornton got dicey too, to be fair. You win some, you lose some. 6) Apart from the closer, we put some doubt in their bullpen. We might be able to get at them (though hopefully we get some leads and dont have to). 7) The way we were shutdown for most of the game gave me eerie feelings of the home opener in the playoffs of 2012. The difference being that then we seemed to go into a shell and got blasted. This time we fought back and made it a one-run game, with some almost moments thrown in. This is a different team than 2012. Theyll take the loss, learn from it, and come back at em tomorrow. Ill be in the stands loud and proud helping them take a split back to San Fran.
