On Thursday, it was reported by Newsmax that the White House was sent nearly 2,500 confidential tax documents by the IRS for review in 2013 during the IRS targeting controversy. Legal advocacy group Cause of Action released this information from their lawsuit filed against the U.S. Treasury Department inspector general. “The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration informed Cause of Action that there exist nearly 2,500 potentially responsive documents relating to investigations of improper disclosures of confidential taxpayer information by the IRS,” the organization said, according to Newsmax. This and other documentation disclosing the exchange of confidential information between former IRS official Lois Lerner and White House policy advisor Jeanne Lambrew demonstrate the likely targeting of conservative groups for review, especially those that had active lawsuits against the current administration.
