Finally, the mainstream media has caught onto what everyone already knows: Women are disproportionately the victims of domestic violence at the hands of their (predominantly male) lovers. So while the NSW Government is enacting laws for mandatory sentences for certain street violence, on the basis of its prevalence, the exponentially more prevalent act of domestic violence has so far remained largely ignored by law makers. We are not saying there should be mandatory sentences for domestic violence offences, but there should be equal treatment of violent offences pursuant to pre-existing sentencing laws, and domestic violence deserves wider public exposure compared to the odd king hit. #law #IWD #InternationalWomensDay #women #violence #mandatorysentences
