Finally trying to teach myself to solder properly. For most of my life I have become proficient at cold solder joints, lifted pads and solder bridges. (Hi, Hi) Now Im determined to start building kits and eventually working on incorporating Arduino and Rasberry Pi kits into ham radio. I love electronics and have studied almost every book on electronics I could get my hands on. I feel that Im pretty good at understanding almost every aspect of electronics as it pertains to ham radio. Yet, Ive always had this hole in my life because my poor soldering ability has stopped me from building kits of any skill level. So I used my Christmas presents (Amazon gift cards) to buy a Hakko FX888D among some other soldering tools. My first kit was an Elenco Electronics Solder Practice Kit SP-3B (Just two alternating LEDs but with a lot of soldering practice.) Had a few mishaps during the soldering practice portion but thats why its there, to work out the bugs before you build the project. And its all part of the learning process. When I got to the actual project part, I was very apprehensive about screwing it up. But I persevered and finished the project with no cold joints or lifted pads and to top it off, IT WORKS!!! on the first try! I know its not much for most of the experienced solderers in this group but I now have snorted the solder smoke and feel that addiction coming on. AK4DW
