Finally winter arrived in Berlin. But how! Not beautifully with snow, but with an ice storm which turned the streets and sidewalks in slippery ice rinks causing many accidents. After weeks of mild weather which equaled spring, cold weather was transported to Berlin from the east. From a warmer layer above the cold layer rain fell on frozen ground, froze and formed a solid layer of ice. Berliners who went to work in the morning were caught by surprise. The emergency rooms of the citys hospitals were full because of many people who needed medical attention. As in the ER at Martin Luther Hospital, which belongs to the PGD International network. Dr. med. Erko Höynck, head physician of the ER, reports of fractures of the hand, the knee, the hip and injuries at the shoulder. Every staff member of MLK not needed for other important medical attention came down to the ER to help out.
