Finding Fela was very, very good...significantly better than the vaguely positive reviews made it out to be. The people I saw it with all loved it. One was a Fela Kuti fan from Lagos and the others had never heard of Fela Kuti at all. I strongly recommend this documentary for anyone interested in Africa (especially West Africa and Nigeria), African colonialism, jazz, African-influenced music, black power, civil disobedience, or fascinating, complex dudes. The film did do a good job of incorporating all the less savory aspects of his life along with all the amazing, charitable qualities.
