In 2014, Shell Philippines will be celebrating its centennial anniversary. As part of the celebratory activities happening in February 2014, we will be staging an international conference called the “Powering Progress Together” (PPT) business forum which will be held at the Manila Hotel. It aims to bring 500 delegates (academe, policy makers, business, NGOs, civil society) together with local as well as international speakers who will discuss the topic on Energy-Food-Water stress nexus or the so-called Triple Trilemma of energy, food and water security. In this PPT business forum, we hope to showcase how we work with different sectors (such as the youth) in innovatively and sustainably implementing solutions for issues on energy, food or water. The Innovative/Smart Solution on Energy, Food or Water Issues project competition is open to students representing their school. The project entries should feature implementable innovative/smart solutions on energy, food or water issues covering needs of a community in the City of Manila. The winning team will be providing with funding for the proposal to be implemented. The following are the criteria for the project competition: 1. Feasibility The project should be carried out successfully..To be up and running, the lead time for the project is from the time the idea/program proposal is accepted, when the team receives funding from Shell, up to the last week of January. 2. Innovativeness The project should be original, complete with inventive and creative methods or ways for implementation. This requires that the proposal is cost-effective. 3. Sustainability The project needs to be sustainable so that the local government and community can take on/adopt the project initiative and continue supporting its operations. 4. Relevance The project must be appropriate and must cater to the needs of the community. Feasibility 25% Innovativeness 25% Sustainability 25% Relevance 25% Total 100% The winning entry should be implemented from September 2013 to January 2014. The project will be presented by the students at the international conference, PPT business forum in the first week of February 2014.The first place winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize of Php 10,000 to be awarded at the September SD Youth Congress. The implementation of the winning project will be funded by Shell Philippines Exploration. The second place winner will receive a trophy along with a cash prize of Php 5,000. The last placer will also get a trophy and a cash prize of Php 3,000. The last day for the submission of entries is on August 10. The first screening will be on August 15 followed by the elimination round on September 2. The final round will be on the day of the Shell Youth Congress, September 28. A letter of Intent to submit an entry must be emailed to Ms. Marie Uy or Ms. Aimee Francisco at shellcongress.uap@gmail or [email protected]. An entry form and project proposal format will be issued upon receipt of the letter.
