Finished reading The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, a 5-star read. Published in 1975, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the book recounts in detail the Battle of Gettysburg, told from the POV of the major characters. The title comes the memoirs of J.L. Chamberlain, a major character, who recalls reciting to his father the speech from Hamlet: What a piece of work is man...in action how like an angel! The father comments, Well, boy, if hes an angel, hes sure a murderin angel. The book was inspiration for Ken Burns to create his major series on the Civil War. Of note to my browncoat friends, Joss Whedon, credits the book as his inspiration for the Firefly series.
