Fire Update Thursday July 17, 2014 * * * * * * * * * The situation on the Reservation has reached an extreme level of fire activity, of hazard potential and of the homes and property threatened as well as potentially thousands of acres of timber now burning.... The conditions over the next few days will worsen to a point that the fires now burning will spread rapidly and rage out of control in the dry conditions with no rain and high winds.... We have as of midnight Wednesday instituted a complete shut down and have went to an IFPL 4 and Fire Danger Extreme across the entire Rez.... We have ordered a Type 1 management team and are in a critical level management strategy..... the fire season is early and as I predicted... We are in the midst of a historic fire year... be careful the fires have potenntial to occur and threaten hoes and property like no other year but 1987.... Hang tight people... Safety first.... prayers to all firefighters, law enforcement and EMS responders across the USA.... we are doing the best we can and are experiencing our finest hours in the suppression of these large raging fires...
