First Meeting With Radiation Dept. @First Health Posted August 8th, 2013 by Larry Cockman Met with Dr. King, medical director @Radiation Oncology of First Helath Hospital systems. He reinterated that the purpose of radiation is to kill any scramous cells that might have been left after removal of the tumor in the throat. Dr. King explained what radiation is and the procedure that it is administered by. They make a mask that will hold her face and neck still while she receives the rays. She was fitted with the material that will make the mask. She told me she felt like she could not get her breath while the plastic molded to her face. We actually did two appointments in one day. Her next step is a planning session at radiology to set up procedures and times for the radiation treatments. This meeting will come in about a week. Then she will meet for a "dry run" before the actual radiation treatments begin. We spoke with a case worker that informed us she could get us reimbursement for the gas we purchase....another blessing. We feel like this is moving at a fast pace. WE have friends that have been thru this that are telling Jo what to expect. I seem to have more anxiety than Jo does. The old devil works on me heavily sometimes. SO WE HAVE THE GAS TAKEN OF.....A PART OF THE HOSPITAL AND DR. BILLS...(80%). I fear the pharmacy bills. PLEASE GIVE WHAT YOU CAN. WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS.
