First: Remembering journalists, Helen Thomas and Guy Friddell: Helen Thomas, the long-time dean of the White House press corps, died Saturday at age 92 after a long illness, and Guy Friddell, veteran reporter for the Richmond News Leader and more than 40-year editor and columnist with the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot also died Saturday. He, too, was 92. Both knew Williamsburg very well, and for years were close friends of the late Donald J. Gonzales, senior vice president of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, who introduced them to me — Guy in the mid-1960s and Helen in the early 1970s. I want to concentrate on Helen Thomas.
