First World War Centenary Christmas Card Launch northernunison.org.uk/?p=1077 Thursday 18th December, 6pm – 7pm UNISON Northern, 140-150 Pilgrim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne NE16TH Guest speakers: Clare Williams (UNISON Northern), Roger Nettleship (Newcastle Stop the War Coalition) and Nick Megoran (Martin Luther King Peace Committee). Refreshments will be provided 2014 marks the 100 year anniversary of the start of the First World War. Michael Gove and Boris Johnson have used this significant event to attack what they believe to be a lack of patriotism by those who correctly denounce the war as a bloody imperialist conflict. UNISON Northern, in collaboration with Newcastle Stop the War and the Martin Luther King Peace Committee, have produced a Christmas card in memory of the 1914 Christmas Truce, to highlight the importance of using this anniversary to promote peace and tolerance.
