First impressions of #WWE2K15 on #XboxOne and #PS4. We here at 4-One like our wrestling. Well half our team does at least anyway. With all the news building up to this years current gen debut of a WWE game we had to go out and get ourselves a copy. We purchased it without getting swayed either way be reviews and now we can give you our first impressions after a week with the game. Turning on the game you are greeted with a very sleek menu system and #AvengedSevenfold blasting from your tv. Good combination in any scenario really. You have the usual menu selections that you would expect from a wrestling game along with this titles new game modes this year, MyCareer and Showcase. The first thing we had to do was just boot up a singles match, one on one. We chose Daniel Bryan to fight Randy Orton. We briefly noticed that the cast of wrestlers was mostly yet to be unlocked and that the match rule options were stripped back quite a bit from previous iterations. As Bryan walked to the ring we couldnt help but admire the graphical upgrade and even more so the facial scanning that was used this year. Both wrestlers looked astounding and as did the arenas and the crowds. Also it was nice to hear commentary during the entrances too from Cole and Lawlor. Also the loading times have seemed to be reduced quite a bit which is always good. The bell rang and we were off. Straight away it felt a lot slower paced. Gone were the days of running around like lunatics and doing running moves constantly. The match started with the new lock up system which sees players play a game of rock paper scissors to gain an early advantage and looking for sweet spots to gain better positioning. Now the system can be fully taken off but is enjoyable and only lasts for a wrestlers first green bar of health. Yes you heard us, health bars. The game has 3 bars of health for each wrestler. Green, yellow and orange/red. It also has a stamina system where your actions in the ring determine how much stamina you are using similar to #EAs #UFC game. Again stamina can be adjusted or turned off in options. As we wrestled and played more of the match we noticed two things mostly. The ai has become quite difficult on the regular setting and the combat seems more like triggered actions than actually executing moves. Now you could argue that the games have alwayd felt this way but now with the slower pacing it is like giving a command to a character in #WOW and watching it play out. Still fun but it really takes us out of the experience. Some features have not changed in the game like tapping for submissions while other features such as holding a hold while told to break been omitted. Omitted actually explains a lot about this game. Gone are the simplest of modes and ideas. No handicap matches are included anymore and they arent the only match type either. The biggest curve ball of all is the lack of custom wrestler slots and customisations. Down from nearly 100 to 20. That is a crazy reduction. Also a lot of the character clothing and items options have also seemed to disappear. 2K have taken a leaf from the book of #Ubisoft and left out Diva creation completely. So basically a create a dude fest. Now 2K have an awesome import feature that requires access to a laptop and it is the most over convoluted thing we have ever seen. You need to get the game to give you a token code, go to your laptop and enter it on their site to upload the image you want. It doesnt work half the time and when it does a lot will need to be trimmed in photoshop first. It is honestly a great idea but so hard to execute. Ok we will wrap this up with the only other mode we have played. We have sank about 5 hours into it too. Its MyCareer and it can be fun. Starting in NXT and making your way to the roster with a few storylines to fill the gap along the way. Even better you can use your own character and play out those childhood dreams. In all honesty the career is fun. The one drawback is that you very rarely get any match variation bar PPV matches and the odd no DQ. Waiting for a title shot (bar NXT title), then you could be waiting forever. This admin has played 28 matches. Won every one and has yet to be offered a shot. Career also allows you to buy ability points and skills which are split between two different sets of payouts. Let us tell you that at 59 rated you will have a very hard time winning but after your first PPV you will get a massove payout. The game also has twitter followers for your wrestler which adds to how quick you will jump up from show to show. Thats it so far folks but we will return when we have tested the game a bit more. As it stands it is fun but found lacking mostly. Maybe a game to wait on for January sales.
