First may I just say Salam allekum. There is no perfect creation, all creation needs proper maintainece to fufil its full potential. Kogi state has 2 of the biggest rivers in Nigeria: river Niger and river benue. This is a natural blessing. What can we do with this natural gift? Why should we do anything about these rivers? How can we go about doing it? The 2 rivers have several entries and exits. Infact if there is a contamination in a smaller river in another location it is possible that this could affect the rivers in Kogi because most rivers in Nigeria flow into the rivers niger and benue. The same applies to contamination in the river niger, this can lead to problems in rivers in other states. The river niger and river benue are probably the largest habitats for aquatic life in Nigeria! Ensuring that the 2 rivers are in good condition is paramount. The task is not that easy and it will engage the entire country! Firstly we need to establish what kind of aquatic life we want in the rivers and we need to understand the lifestyle of the animals in the water. There are a lot of human activity that can aid aquatic life and there are some human activity that can destroy the animals in the river! Weeding usually is a good thing but weeding certain plant around the river or in the river can be very threatening to the animals in the water as some of the weeds are consumed by the fish! If we dont treat the rivers in Kogi as carefully and generously as you would treat a fish pond then we risk the extinction of some of the animals in the water.
