First, most importantly, I have a cool new friend! Second, shes an award winning documentary photographer. Third, shes asked us if she can document OUR familys journey in pictures over the coming months. I told her I dont think were that interesting! She laughed. She wants to share our story in pictures because she believes it can help others. That pictures have that kind of power. Its anxiety provoking to think about having someone watching us (& I dont like having my picture taken! :) But, for some inexplicable reason, it feels right to take a leap of faith & do it. Shell come over to our house now & then, or tag along with us doing our normal activities & shoot pictures to document our lives. Were in agreement that our story wont be portrayed as a tragedy. We have challenges, but we deal with them. We are different from other families--& yet we are the same too. It dont know that I entirely understand how it can help others, but Im going to trust her vision. Also, she gets that the well-being of my kids is my highest priority. We wont show anything that could embarrass or hurt them. They dont have to DO anything, just be themselves. They have the right at any time to say, no. We hope shell create something that we can feel good about (especially Kaede--the boys couldnt care less :) Because really, what a wonderful thing to have someone so talented taking pictures of my kids that we can always cherish. Life is so fleeting, a captured moment is priceless.
