First of all, I would like to thank everybody that liked the page and contributed, I appreciate you all. It was an incredible and enjoyable journey so thank you. FIFA WORLD CUP TOP TEN 1. Germany, worthy winners! They were the most consistent team and therefore deserved it. Their thrashing of the host were just the icing of the cake because at the end of the day, it was all about winning the tournament. 2. Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Algeria, Mexico and USA are a few teams I was very much impressed by. Mainly because, they didnt really have any expectations and most of the people wrote them off but booyyy did they delivery. Argentina may have made the final but in my honest opinion I do believe that, if these teams had the same route as Argentina had, they may have done as well as them, maybe even better who knows. That was the beauty of this competitions... for ones, people are not only praising the big footballing nations but showing respect and admiration towards these teams, that kinda made the whole tournament more exciting. 3.The Goal keepers. Spains keeper Iker Casillas was the biggest letdown in this world cup. He may not have been given the proper support by his defenders but in terms of his personal performance, it was awful to say the least. Especially for a keeper of his level. But enough about that. What about Nigerias Enyema, Mexicos Ochoa, Chiles Bravo, USAs Tim Howard or even Argentinas Romero or Costa Ricas Navas?. We often give praise to the outfield players, especially the offensive ones but we shouldnt forget the goalkeepers who plays as big of a part in the game as the other players, if not more. I was very impressed by their standard of their goal keeping but if anybody gets my vote for the best keeper, its Neuer without a doubt.Outstanding goalkeeper! 4. Match of the tournament.....hard to decided because almost every game was very good, but I guess the talking point will be about 2 games in particular, if you dont count the final that is. first one is Holland and Spain game that ended 5-1. The holders got dethroned by the dutch. Great goals and Robben had a fantastic game, it looked like he couldve and maybe shouldve scored 2-3 more goals on top of the 2 he scored again them. Great game. Second one is Germany v Brazil of course, 7-1. It was painful to watch as a Brazil supporter buuuuuuttt as a neutral, this was a masterclass of a performance by the Germans. Brazil poor defending may have given the Germans a helping hand but make no mistake, there was only one team playing in that match. 5 The super stars. We all knew about the Messis The Ronaldos The Neymars and so on. But who do I think was the standout player? Well between the three I mentioned, I would say Neymar done best, performance wise. He basically took a pub team and carried them until his back broke and they had to go on without him, and they ended up conceding 10 goals and scoring only once in those two games. The comes Messi who done well for what he had on the table..his teammates that is. But his performance wasnt the best, he showed some flashes and glimpse of the Messi we all know and that was enough to carry Argentina to the final. But he wasnt quite the player we all know and his performance wasnt all that convincing, even though he popped up with an a goal or two every now and then. Cristiano was however not even amongst the best. We may blame the injuries or his team performance but ad the end of the day, if youre on the field, you are meant to play and perform. He didnt reach his normal standard but done okay. Okay isnt however good enough for a player of his level. 6. Best Player. Messi won it. Its beyond me how he couldve won it when we clearly saw at least 4-5 players who performed better than him and showed more consistency. Take nothing away from the Great man but in my opinion, James Rodriguez shoulder been awarded for the player of the tournament. A relative unknown player what has now become a household name due to his performances for his Colombia. So, if we talk about who a player who carried his team, you should look no further than James, who scored and assisted more goals than any other player and was very consistent throughout the tournament, only to go out against the host. PLayers like Robben, Neymar, Muller, Neuer are a few players I think also deserved the price, ahead of Messi. But we all know how Fifa works by now and its no coincident that Adidas, the sponser of the World cup, gave the price to a player who they sponser as well. I agree with Maradona, it is all a marketing plan. Messi however can only accept it, the complains should be towards Fifa not Messi. 7. Best goal? We had Cahils stunner against Holland who nobody though would be beat, then we have Schurrles one against the host, and of course Gotzes beautiful goal in the final or even Messis great shot v Iran or David Luiz freekick. The list goes on but for me, the goal of the tournament goes to, again, James Rodriguez. Wonderful control of a lose ball on his chest, and even better execution outside the penalty box that went of the cross bar into the top corner. Great goal! 8.Disappointments: I would say some level of refeering which I though was awful but the overall feelign was that, it didnt affect the tournament too much. The African teams were a let down, not only on the pitch but off it as well. Lack of discipline and focus caught up with them. Also their defensive approach ruing their flair and creativity they are so well known for. Ghana did produce some great Football against Germany and shouldve won but werent clinical enough and Germany equalized. Algeria however made Africa proud with their performances. 9. Klose. There are a number of legends that will call it quits after this tournament. Klose is one of the greatest. He confirmed that by putting his name on top of the all time world cup all time top scoring list, and winning the world cup. What a send off! 10. There is so much more I can say and share but a lot has already been said. All I can say now is, thanks again and what a wonderful competitions we witnessed! The best ever world cup and the Germans came on top. It will sadly be missed but we can look forward to a great club season now, with all the new and exciting transfers sparked by the world cup performances. Thats all from me.
