First of all, I’m all for wrestlers hitting it big, going to the WWE, staring in PPV’s and headlining Wrestlemania. That said, WWE isn’t really wrestling to me. It’s a side show, with some professional wrestling in it. Even then, the wrestling is toned way down. WWE has to please sponsors, networks, and soccer moms worldwide. I understand why, but I don’t have to like it. Few wrestlers come to WWE and stay who they are. Few arrive in Connecticut and get to keep being the guy that brought them there. C.M. Punk is one of the only wrestlers, oh excuse me, “Superstars,” that has gotten to remain who he’s always been. Even then, that’s only after several years of struggling, and promising to quit, before he finally got an open microphone, that got who he is over. I might argue that RVD is who he’s always been, but his move set has been dialed down. Look at some others; Daniel Bryan has been turned into a goofy little bearded man that screams YES! and NO! as if he has turrets. He’s still an awesome technician, but he’s a cartoon character. Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose, (former indy greats) are wanna be bomb squad members, going so far as to even wrestle in flak jackets! Antonio Cesaro is following Jack Swagger around shouting “We the people!” Brody Lee, err I mean Luke Harper” is now a lackey for Husky Harris! (Bray Wyatt). These are WWE ideas. These are what WRESTLERS have to do in order to “get over” with the WWE audience, or…Universe. Again, I don’t slight them. I’d do it to for the pay day, but it’s not the wrestling I enjoy. I don’t even know what to say about TNA. If they’d stop trying to copy WWE for five minutes, they might be a decent alternative. However; as long as they keep pushing WWE rejects, as their main stars, I just can’t get overly interested. Chris Sabin as champ is a nice change of pace, but they keep ignoring their true star, their C.M. Punk, Austin Aries. Aries is still to this day, the only man to hold the Ring of Honor Championship twice. He’s over with every crowd TNA performs in front of, and TNA was at its best, when he was champion for them. They don’t warp new wrestlers as much as WWE does, but I’ll never get over “Desmond Wolf.” Nigel McGuiness was one of the biggest indy stars on the market, and they gave him the dumbest name, next to Dolph Ziggler, and stopped pushing him the day after he faced Kurt Angle, at a PPV (and lost, for some reason). They also had no idea what to do with one of the greatest tag teams out there today, “The Young Bucks.” They gave them the stupid name “Generation Me” and eventually broke them up. It was horrible. Imagine if back in the day, someone brought in the Midnight Express, and did that. No one would have been that stupid! I enjoyed wrestling more when it was in seedy looking places full of cigar smoke. When it wasn’t “dirty” or have an “attitude,” but it wasn’t for children. Iloved watching the old NWA on Superstation TBS in front of a studio audience. When I started watching WWF (now WWE, thanks to Panda’s) I thought it paled in comparison to the NWA, and even the AWA. I much preferred fighting, world traveling, champions, like Ric Flair, and Rick Martell. I mush preferred real life “characters” to cartoony, goofy, silly, over the top characters the WWF gave us. In fact, I often found the WWF kind of insulting. I watched it for the same reason I watch it today. There is SOME good wrestling on it. Thankfully today, I own a DVR and can fast-forward stupid stuff like dance-a-thons, general managers screeching “EXCUSE ME,” and infighting between the McMahon family members. If you’re like me at all, please start supporting independent wrestling. Wrestling is done right by the following indy promotions. Ring of Honor ringofhonorwrestling Pro Wrestling Gorilla prowrestlinggorilla and Dragon Gate Wrestling USA/Evole dgusa.tv You can watch Ring of Honor on their website, for FREE, every week. DGUSA/Evolve have ippv’s here wwnlive and PWG sells their events (some of the greatest stuff you’ll ever see) on DVD, only a few weeks after the live cards. Ypu’ll see incredible talents, wrestlers as skilled, or more so, than WWE and TNA wrestlers. Guys like Johnny Gargano, Ricochet, Uhaa Nation, Jigsaw, Adam Cole, Anthony Nese, Caleb Konely, Japanese star CIMA, Rich Swan, Shane Strickland, Michael Elgin, Kevin Steen, and Tommaso Ciampa. That’s far from all of them, but these guys will not let you down. John Cena recently said on RAW that the WWE is the NFL of professional Wrestling. Well, they do have ridiculous rules, over hyped teams, and members, silly owners, and side shows, that take away from the core game. I prefer College Football, where it’s not about money, but passion, excitement, and the environment. In the same way, I prefer indy wrestling to the WWE, and TNA. Indy wrestling is about heart, desire, drive, and passion. Wrestlers (not superstars) interact with the fans (Not Universe). If you want a Young Bucks t-shirt (and who wouldn’t! Support them, and all these great indy stars at prowrestlingtees) you will likely find the Bucks themselves at their t-shirt table! WWE fans may laugh at that, but I laugh at WWE fans. Vince just signed indy stars Samuary Del Sol and Sammi Callahan. Let’s see what he does with them. Do I think we will see the same two guys we saw in indy wrestling? No! No! No! I wish them all the best, but I’ll still support the indy feds over WWE and TNA any day of the week. I’m hoping I convince you to do the same.
