First rescue in Pali brick kilns Ramnarayan Chowkidar and his seven family members were rescued from NBI bricks at Lambiya village in Pali district of Rajasthan. The rescue took place two days after the complaint was lodged. Ramnarayan was asked to leave the brick kiln because he had attended a Union meeting. He was asked to pay back a large sum and told that his wages will be calculated at half the prevailing rate. His goat was impounded by the kiln owner. Pali is a highly feudal districts where the old order still runs. When the local Government officer reached the kiln along with the Union team, the brick kiln owners collected together and refused to release the workers unless their advance was settled. The Government team was under pressure. Finally the settlement had to be done as demanded by the owners. The goat was left behind in lieu of the pending amount. There is another group of 10 workers from UP who are being held at the same kiln and being made to work without any wages. They are only give food expenses. The owners are refusing to release them saying that he wages will be paid only at the end of the season.
