First thing that we must realize is that for us to live as a Christian is to know what it means. To be a Christian is not just a thought process or a declaration of belief in Jesus Christ. It means to have an intimate loving relationship with Jesus the Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father. It is to know Jesus as God. It is also to know Jesus as the man. To be a Christian we are called to live as imitations of Christ. How can we possibly know how to live as a Christian if we don’t know Christ? We can’t. How can we live as a Christian if we deny the religious heritage in which Christ Jesus was born into? We can’t. So, we must know God intimately and in knowing God we know the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We know Jesus as God, but also as man. We study and get to know what the culture, the religious heritage and how this people called and chosen by God to be His people lived. Second thing that we must realize is that through the centuries people have been identifying and determining for themselves what it means to live as a Christian. To be a Christian, and keeping in mind the first realization, we need to see what the Word of God has to say about being a Christian. Since we are people of Scripture, we understand believe that the truth is contained in both the Old and New Testament. Therefore, it is impossible for us to identify and determine for ourselves what it means to lived as a Christian, but we must be taught by God through the Old and New Testament. It is in these two realizations that we shall study the Bible as a whole to be taught by God’s Holy Word what it means to live as a Christian. We begin, not in the New Testament, but in the Old Testament, in Genesis to be exact. Even though we could draw lessons from the way that God, Adam, and Eve lived and communicated together I believe for us it is easier to start just after the fall of human. We are after-all the fruit of the fall and strive to understand our relationship with God through our lives. In Genesis chapter 4 the story of Cain and Abel begins.
