Fishing update Otter Tail Lakes Country Fishing remains great in Otter Tail Lakes Country, despite record high water levels in most lakes. The result can be confusing since sites that were 10 feet deep last season are now 12-13 feet deep this season, therefore last year’s hot spots may not be best this year. Walleye, bass, panfish and pike anglers continue to take good numbers of fish, but often from different locations or on different presentations. The water color and clarity has changed due to all of the rain, and water temperatures have been holding steady at roughly 68 degrees. For walleyes, pay close attention to leader lengths and trolling speeds. For panfish, a light 1/32-ounce jig head tipped with a chunk of crawler or gulp will do the trick—try jigs in pink or variations of white, and fish them over the weed tops for the most action. For crappies, gulp and rubber skirts are working slightly better than a worm. For bass, try chartreuse spinner baits with blades and cast them into or near dense vegetation, or towards the trees and docks near deep drop-offs. For northern pike, cast spinnerbaits into or near the cabbage weed beds located near deep water. 800-423-4571; ottertailcountry
