FitTip: Muscle Overload for More Gains! The reason many of us hit plateaus in training and fail to see constant results is because we don’t challenge ourselves. If you’re constantly training at the same intensity with no change in the weights or the routine itself, hitting a plateau is almost a guarantee. You have to continue to challenge your muscles by introducing new exercises, or changing the intensity, duration, and frequency of your workouts. This concept is commonly referred to as the “overload principle.” An easy way to change up your routine to help you break through your plateau and begin to see results would be to add a set onto each routine every week for a four week period. Decreasing the amount of rest between sets or increasing the amount of weight can also be added to your routine.
