Five Arrested after Fight Breaks Out at Kelley Square On June 4, 2014 around noontime, a member of the Worcester Police Vice Squad was operating an unmarked police cruiser near Kelley Square when he observed a large fight. The officer witnessed several separate groups of males fighting on the sidewalk and street. He also saw a vehicle parked with a window smashed out that was blocking traffic. As the officer attempted to pull over, he saw two males with baseball bats and another male brandished a folding knife. The groups started to disperse when they noticed the officer approaching them. Most of the people involved fled on foot while two others jumped into the vehicle with the smashed out window. The officer stopped the vehicle and arriving officers were able to stop some of the individuals fleeing from the scene. One of the individuals in the vehicle was identified as 21-year-old Justin Roman of Worcester. Mr. Roman yelled out offensive racial slurs and derogatory remarks. Mr. Roman ignored all commands and continued to yell. Several other individuals involved in the fight including the male with the knife were able to flee from scene. The investigation is ongoing. Officers recovered the baseball bat used in the fight from 18-year-old Richard Aviles of Worcester. Paramedics arrived on scene to treat the injuries that Mr. Roman and a juvenile sustained in the fight. The incident caused significant traffic congestion in Kelly Square. Justin Roman, 21, of 7 Diamond Street, Worcester, was charged with Assault, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Civil Rights Violation, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, and Witness Intimidation. Richard Aviles, 18, of 9 Kelley Square, Apt 2, Worcester, was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Malicious Destruction of Property over $250, Disorderly Conduct, and Disturbing the Peace. A 16-year-old male juvenile of Worcester was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Malicious Destruction of Property over $250, Disorderly Conduct, and Disturbing the Peace. A 17-year-old male juvenile of Worcester was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace and Interfering with a Police Officer. Debra Colon, 20, of 34 Barclay Street Worcester was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace.
