Five Habits You Need in your Life!! 1. Drink water: Water is a nutrient our bodies need. We can get this nutrient from liquids, plain water, and foods. It is important to replace the large amounts of water we lose every day. Drinking more water helps rev up your metabolism. It also helps your heart pump your blood more effectively, as well as transporting oxygen and other nutrients to your cells. Bottom line: Water is good! 2. Eat your fruits and veggies: Health benefits include reducing your risk for certain types of cancers, heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat and loaded with essential vitamins our bodies need. They are also low in calories and will aid in weight loss when consumed instead of higher-calorie food. 3. Exercise: The benefits of exercise are limitless! Not only does exercise benefit your body, it also benefits your mind. Exercising causes the body to produce endorphins (chemicals that make you feel peaceful and happy). It can help you sleep better. It helps with low self-esteem and mild depression. It can give you a sense of pride and accomplishment. Exercise will help keep your body at a healthy weight and lowers your risk of disease. It will also help you age well. Studies have found that resistance training works to keep your bones strong and will fight against osteoporosis. 4. Sleep: Sleep plays an important role in good health throughout your life. Getting enough good quality sleep can help protect your mental and physical health. Studies show that a good night’s sleep helps your brain work properly and prepare for the next day. If you are sleep deficient you are more likely to have difficulty making decisions, solving problems, and controlling your emotions. As for your physical health, sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and obesity. 5. Moderation: Moderation means to show restraint, avoid extremes and excesses. It is a commitment to balance and wholeness. The more you try to eliminate your favorite foods, the more likely you are to feel deprived and have feelings of resentment. Learn to slow down, eat less, enjoy what is in front of you and give thanks for a healthy body. Creating healthy habits is a MUST if you are to live to your full potential. Take small steps to incorporate these 5 habits into your life. You’ll be glad you did! Love, K & F
