Five top HM mujahideen martyred in encounter HM pays rich tributes and pledges to intensify attacks on Indian security personnel Kangan, August 30: Indian Army Friday claimed that it killed five suspected militants in an overnight gun battle in a forested area of northern Kashmir, triggering anti-India protests by local residents. Police sources told CNS that a group of five militants had arrived in Preng area of Kangan from Najwan Nar area. Army laid an ambush near Preng Bridge as soon as militants arrivedthere, they were attacked by Army personnel from 24 RR and SOG men from Ganderbal. A police official said militants try to hide in a nearby school building, however the swift action on part of Army personnel did not provide them chance to do so and they were eliminated in the shootout. Reliable sources told CNS that Army had inputsthat a group of five militants were moving towards Preng area of Kangan. In order to trap them, they laid concertina wire around the small bride and placed powerful mine under it. Militants moving with pace did not locate the barbed wire. Sources said that soon after Army blew up mine and they all were killed in the powerful blast. However, Army said that all the militants were killed in encounter which lasted whole night. While addressing to the media, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir, Afhad- ul-Mujtaba and General Officer Commanding, Victor Force, R.Nimborkar termed it as a big achievement and a big jolt to militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen. “The encounter started at 10 in the night and lasted till 7 of the morning. We were able to eliminate two militants at around 12:30 of thenight while the rest of the three militants engaged Army personnel till 7 in the morning,” GOC, Victor Force told reporters. Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujhadeen in a statement admitted that all the five slain militants were affiliated with the outfit. The outfit while paying rich tribute to the slain militants reiterated that it would bring intensity in its attack on Indian security personnel. “The outfit lost a great commander and its four confidants,” the statement reads. Hizb has identified the slain militants as commander Qari Assadullah, Mohammad Usman, Mohammad Umar, Javid Ahmed and Hilal Ahmed. All the five slain militants according to police were part of Hizbul Mujhadeen. They were buried in the local grave yard amid anti-India, pro-Islam and pro-freedom slogans.
